Media Making Change
3836 N Haight, Portland, OR 97227 (503) 975-4545
The Northwest Institute is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We have been fortunate with our support from generous donors and helpful members of the community. It really does take a village to create an independent journalist.
We would appreciate your support and involvement.
How can you help?
We always have a need for people to help with events, transportation, hosting meals, technology, mailings…the list goes on! Please contact us and give us a hand.
Each summer students stay with a local family during their six weeks here in Portland. Staying with a family in town gives students an immediate connection to the community and a home base. Students will be responsible for their own meals. Offering a place for a student to stay during this time can be a rewarding way to get directly involved with the program. Contact us.
Are you a writer, filmmaker, blogger, musician, or politician who would be willing to share your expertise with an idealistic student who is hungry to learn from you? Please contact us so that we can figure out how we can include your talents in the curriculum. Contact us.
In order to continue inspiring generations of new media activists we rely on your support. The program is sponsored by grants from foundations, donations from forward-thinking businesses and, most importantly, from individuals.
Each attending student receives a fellowship to sponsor his or her summer with the Northwest Institute. These fellowships cover the students’ educational costs, and their basic food and housing expenses. In addition, we award travel stipends for qualifying participants.
We hope to remove any financial barriers or considerations so that students from all financial and socio-economic backgrounds can attend the program. We simply want bright, energetic and optimistic students.
You can help sponsor these fellowships or, you can make a donation to offset instructors’ fees and other basic costs.
$1,000 pays for an entire week of instruction, covering the professors’ stipend and various educational materials.
$500 covers the production and film costs for a documentary film project.
$5 helps sponsor these students first steps into productive and powerful careers in the public sector, and it helps us know that you are out there supporting this program.
