Media Making Change
4013 N Gantenbein, Portland, OR 97227 (503) 975-4545
During the final four weeks of the program, students grouped-up to create three short video pieces that tell the stories of local Portland solutions to issues of relevance to other cities. With the help of a crash-course from Portland Community Media and a number of workshops with accomplished filmmakers such as Fiona Otway,Brett Vail, Dennis Fitzgerald, and Robert Greenwald, students (many of which had never touched a video camera) created the following pieces:
by Emily Smith, Rylan Soref, and Kendall Taggart
by Russ Caditz-Peck, Caitlin Clay, Catherine Woodiwiss, and Mark Saldana
by Will Bangs, Amelia Buzzell, Tom Niemisto, and Hana Sun
Students created audio pieces that examine solutions unique to Portland on a range of national issues. In preparation for their projects, students attended workshops with a number of local radio and audio professionals, including April Baer and Julie Sabatier from Oregon Public Broadcasting, radio producer and writer Aaron Miles, and Noah Kleiman from the Old Library Studios.
